Founding Norse

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

In my group we have managed to complete a lot of work when looking at the development of our product. Our process included:

- We looked at problems that we could solve with a device. We explored difficulties we faced as an individual and as a population. We came up with the rough ideas of several products include: a device that would solve the problem of tangled wires, a device that could sound an alarm when your drink reaches a specific temperature that you have set, a bluetooth controller that connects to your phone, a solar panel mobile phone charger, and Smart Glasses.

- As a group we asked our classmates what device they think was the best following a certain criteria. The majority of them responded with the Smart Glasses as their favourite product. We then began to explore this type of technology that exists today and what features we could include.

Some ideas we came up with for the purpose of the product are shown below:

-Directions.

-Subtitles in real time (For the deaf users).

-Translation with real time subtitles.

We also individually looked into different design concepts that we could come up with. We had variations of frame sizes, shapes, and thicknesses. We also looked into the idea of having the product very stylised and having the device look like a skiing visor.

Some early concept designs:

These drawings lacked detail but we planned to annotate and draw them in closer to the final design stage after we had received feedback and researched more into anthropometrics and ergonomics of the user.

- Every member of the group had a different role that had been decided at the beginning of the design phase. My jobs included, CAD drawings, 3D modelling, Trailer and UI editing as well as helping out in any other job if needed. So I began to draw and design some early test UI within photoshop to try and get the sense of what it would be like from the users point of view.

As seen in the images above the name tags above each of the people are set to be a different colour, this is so that the deaf user will know who is saying what due to the colour presets they made. This will help them to understand when multiple people are speaking at once.

- Next I made a video displaying what the user would see in real time. This video was made very quickly so name tags are missing off of other people in the scene around me. The tracking is also not smooth but that was because it was done manually with limited key frames to save time.

- At this point Dan had been working on logo designs and name for the company. Below you can see the process of producing the logo that we have now.

Dan also came up with the name of the compony, this being: Norse.

After making sketches he made final logo design in photoshop-

-Dan also conducted research on presenting the product in the form of a poster. He produced a mood-board displaying his findings and sketches.
