This terms project was to work with propaganda and create our own examples of it. This project involved researching existing pieces of propaganda, understanding its meaning and impact as well as creating our own.
My initial response to this project was to do a piece of research into the different world problems that I believed to be important to me and that I was enthusiastic about. Some of the these topics included:
-Corruption within world governments
-Global Warming
-NHS funding
-Human rights
-Animals rights
-Racism
-Age discrimination
I chose to pursue the topic of Global Warming as it was rather fitting due to the Australian forest fires had been all over the news. I used the topic of Global Warming in my work with sandwich boards. This work connected to the work I did with the green screen booth as I was able to use the photographs in photoshop to edit myself into street views as I held my sign. My sandwich board work linked to global warming and the ongoing forest fires in Australia at the time, as it depicted a koala being "Evicted" from his burning tree. Everyone had the chance to express a topic they were passionate about.
When it came to designing logos for our companies I chose to stray away from Global Warming as many other people were doing it. I stuck with the idea of preserving animal life, however this time it was aquatic life. I have a blog post displaying the process it took to come up with the final design that I used, during this process I completed research on what makes a good logo and on other logos that are used in similar campaigns.
We had the opportunity to draw a male model nude, this had a large impact on our propaganda work as he was using poses that displayed power, these poses we similarly seen in propaganda. This was a good exercise for me to improve my time efficiency as well as the ability to keep the proportions correct.
I am currently working on my final piece for the project, in which I am creating a simple animations to display the destruction of coral reefs and the life that it inhabits. Soon I will be implementing sound and greater detail to the animation.
Over the time of the project I have completed a large amount of research, this includes researching fake news and their characteristics, the history of propaganda from its origins to present as well as the history of posters. All of my research linked to some extent as poster and propaganda evolved at the same time and rate due to historical events.
So far my experience with this project has been very positive as it is an opportunity to really present whatever I am passionate about in any form that I like. It was a very exciting opportunity to present out work in our own unique and creative way.
