Editing the film

I had two attempts when it came to editing the film, the first attempt was rushed as I was using the computers and software at UCA so I only had a few hours to complete it, although it did give me a good understanding of the pacing of the film as well as how much of a difference the sound effects made.

I had gathered my audio files in the morning at school which included wind, rain and crow sound effects that I planned to use later once my editing began.

*Insert original edit here once I have the memory stick back*

I really wasn't very happy with the result of my video nor was I proud of it, the film lacked drive or meaning and the choice of music was very out of place and ruined what was left of the atmosphere, due to this I went home and started again with the editing as well as creating new scenes that would help keep the film moving smoothly as well as keep the viewers interest. I created a new plan to create scenes that depicted what the environment used to look like before it was reclaimed by nature and when there used to be people happily wandering it. This idea was inspired by *ask Joel for their name* in which the film displays a camera panning through a destroyed environment filled with cars and other decaying objects, the camera then follows the same path again but this time filled with life and people from just before the end of the world. I was inspired by this idea and wanted to implement a similar technique into my own work.

This is a recording of myself scrolling through the contents of editing to display the different audio files I had stacked up to create the completed atmosphere and mood. As seen in the video I tried to make the transition between past and present as smooth and natural as possible, I did this by starting the transition when something passes the camera (e.g. the white van) so that it almost looks as if the vans movement is the transition. A very common transition effect that is used to help the viewer understand that they are witnessing a passing of time or flashback is to have the screen flash white as well as have an audio effect, this is something I used in my own project.

After spending many, many hours editing the visuals and audio I was able to finally say I was finished and proud of my work after one week of working non stop all day to produce this film:
