Another example of a time when propaganda was used was in 1857, when the Indian Rebellion was taking place.
There were many reasons to why the Indian Rebellion took Place, these include-
-The British removed their "false" religion and culture, forcing them to believe in Christianity enforcing that the entirety of India had to be converted to a Christian Country.
-India was being forced to change their way of life due to the British. The British would force farm workers who were living in a 'hand to mouth' system, to pay tax for their land so that the production of metal roads could be funded.
-The British would annex any land that was not currently belonging to a Prince and did not have an heir to inherit it.
The rebellion itself came to life when information on the new rifle the British were going to make the English and Indian forces use were rumoured. The rumours stated that these new rifles required grease made up of beef and pork fat to push the ball down the barrel. The use of the animal fat was very offensive to the Hindu and Muslim culture. Sepoys (Indian soldiers under British command) began to attack British buildings in revolt.
In response the British produced Propaganda to discredit and reconceptualise the members of the Indian Rebellion, as monsters who would rape your wives and daughters. It was the British media's method of trying to justify the colonisation of India.
This is a painting depicting the Indian Rebels to have killed men, women and children without mercy. Once again trying to justify the right for the British to colonise Indian and take over it's culture.
