The use of propaganda is still the same today. Large companies and Governments use it to continuously convince the population to agree with their beliefs. Propaganda can also have subconscious affects on you.
In modern times propaganda is now executed differently to how it was a hundred years ago. We use digital media to present opinions. This may be through a still image or a video.
In adverts of films certain items, sounds and images are placed in the scene that we will subconsciously pick up on. For example many films are sponsored by companies such as Coke, or Apple and you will see the main character drink a Coke or use an iPhone for example. This then leaves an imprint on us subconsciously and we may then be more susceptible to buying a Coke now.
Marvel films are a good example to display the use of product placement:
The first image is from Iron Man 2 in which Tony Stark is seen driving one of his BMW's.
The second image is from Iron Man 3 in which you see another one of Tony Stark's BMW's.
The final image displays the government using the same brand of car.
All of these uses of product placement is designed to make the viewers of this film more inclined to buy a BMW car. Another example of product placement is actually in the film, E.T. The food product, Reece's Pieces can be seen in this still from the film:
After the release of E.T, the sales for Reece's Pieces actually increased by 65% - statistic from paper by Ian Zimmerman. This is evidence that product placement actually works and subconsciously makes people more susceptible to buying the desired product.
I think street art has a very important role in the modern use of propaganda. For example the well known street artist Banksy displays his opinions through the art that he creates.
I think all of Banksy's artwork could be considered propaganda but here are some of the ones that I think are the most relevant at the moment.
