Here is a basic mind map that I made to explore some possibilities of concepts and references:
One of the ideas produced from this mindmap was the Japanese artist Maico Akiba who managed to turn recent technology into dystopian and decayed looking objects. This was the sort of concept and item you expected to see from some post apocalyptic film or TV show. Some of their art can be seen below:
The concept of turning something familiar into a contrasting yet recognisable item through the use of decay was very unique idea and methodology to me. I was unable to recreate or experiment practically with this idea however I was able to use this as inspiration for coming up with future concepts.
Another one of the concepts was the YouTuber 'Dark Exploration Films', this is not a creative youtube channel, they are an explorer and and use their experiences to document abandoned locations. One of the houses they explored had been abandoned without any known reason so the home has an almost ghostly and haunted atmosphere as it feels as if life was suddenly ripped away from the home. This was a concept that I was curious to recreate in future. The video is below:
Here are my notes below that include very simplistic sketches of possible scenes and camera angles:
I thought of researching and referencing war memorial statues and considered looking into:
-WW1 Soldier Statues
-Modern Marine Soldier
-Sci-Fi Dystopian Soldier Statue
I considered using time-lapse that would display the progression of time:
-This is another test animation and will be use limited time will likely use a static camera.
-Similar to the previous test animation however could use a pivoting camera.
-A ray of light symbolising a ray of hope and inspiration in the next generation.
I began working on another test scene however I didn't entirely know what I was doing and the scene felt wrong. It didn't feel grounded within it's own reality and this was due to a lack on historical and contextual research so that is what I worked on next before making the scene.
